The purpose of this opportunity is to help people: to help them become financially independent; to help them become time rich; to help them live the life they want without settling for mediocrity, however they define that.

There are four basic sections, into one of which people will fall:

  • Employee
  • Self employment (often small business)
  • Investor
  • Business builder

Employees receive a paycheck by selling a portion of their time to their employer each week; and the correlation between the time and effort expended and the reward received is rarely weighted in favour of the employee. Generally, employees spend too much time for too little reward, struggling each month to pay the bills with little or nothing left over to live that ‘great life’ they believed they were securing when they got a job. There are exceptions, of course, but they are few and far between.

In self-employment it is a rare thing to own a business, rather the business owns you. Essentially, too often the only difference between self-employment and employment is the boss – instead of it being someone else, suddenly it’s you. Very quickly the self employed person can find themselves working longer and harder for little or no more, sometimes even less, reward than the employee.

Investors are a rare find – mostly because the majority of people do not have enough money to contemplate investing. But big and small businesses alike all need investors at some point, and unless more people start making enough money to have a surplus to invest, they will always be in short supply.

But for the business developer there is a different scenario. The business developer is in the position of enjoying real choice: the stage at which time is genuinely their own and they set their own rules for how they will live. The business developer enjoys control over their own lives, and has wealth in both finance and time.

Robert Kiyasaki shows it like this in his Cashflow Quadrant diagram:

cashflow quadrant

The purpose of this opportunity is to help people move from the E (employee) and S (small business) quadrants into the B (big business) quadrant so that they can be in a position to become participants in the I (investor) quadrant, and keep the cycle going.

In short, the purpose is to unleash the potential in others.
